black natural hair braids twists twist-out conditioning treatment dry hairWell, I finally decided to do it. Take my braids out that is and wear my natural hair.

After wearing some version of braids in my hair for about 12 years, I decided to have 100% natural hair for at least the summer months of 2012, and try a few new looks. The natural hair styles being work by black women are creative, fun, sexy, flexible and very cute. I thought it would be fun to wear my natural hair in twists, twist-outs, and curly braid outs for vacation, weddings and other events this summer.

This short video shows what my natural hair looks like now, and what I had to do to get the look I wanted for my dry, very neglected hair. What can I say? It’s easy to get lazy about hair care when you can get up in the morning, spritz your hair, shake it around, and be done!

Since I live in an area that experiences very hot summers (regularly in the 90-105 degree range), creating a conditioning treatment that would provide moisture, body, and protection from sun and heat was mandatory.

After trying several commercial products that left my hair stiff, sticky or fuzzy, I finally came up with a combination of ingredients that worked. Made with organic food quality oils and Ylang-Ylang essential oil (known to promote hair growth while calming the spirit, this natural hair leave-in conditioning treatment is fabulous, plus it smells great!

Take a look at the video and let me know what you think after you try it yourself.
