About Me

About Deborrah Cooper Advice Columnist, Author and Top Female Blogger

I’ve been a dating and relationship advice columnist for more than 18 years, appearing on radio and television shows all over the country, as well as in dozens of newspapers and websites. I’ve also penned more than 300 articles on the subject of dating, love and relationships, many of which are posted on my blog AskHeartBeat.Com under the pen name “Ms. HeartBeat.”

In 2007 I published a hilarious dating guide entitled “Sucka Free Love: How to Avoid Dating the Dumb, The Deceitful, The Dastardly, The Dysfunctional & The Deranged!” that tackled such controversial subjects as interracial dating, older women/younger men (cougar) relationships, booty calls, baby daddies, abortion and the games people play while dating.

Dating was invented to torture people… to punish them for not being married.  I’m convinced of it. If you’re single and looking for love, ya gotta date, which is a rather depressing thought. You’ll probably laugh a lot as you read these posts, because I have a LOTTTTT of wild stories.  I used to feel that if I wrote about my dating experiences, no one would believe me!  But the stories are all true, and I’ll gradually let you in on that portion of my life.

My goal for the blog Surviving Dating is to share my thoughts, observations and experiences on dating and relationships, with a focus on the issues particular to mature adults.  With wisdom and experience comes a lot of information to share.  The goal is to learn from the dummy things other people have done so you don’t repeat the same mistakes. We can certainly learn from each other, and this blog is a perfect form and way to encourage and facilitate such exchanges.

Yeah, dating kinda sucks.  But until we can come up with some other way to meet Mr. or Ms. Right, its unfortunately the only game in town.  So the best way to play the game is to learn the rules and develop some kind of skills.  Because really, what we want to do is mitigate damages (hey I learned that legal term, isn’t it cool!), and get to the finish line in the love race unscathed, or at least just lightly bruised.

Your comments are welcome, along with your dating stories and suggestions for topics you’d like to see addressed.
