Rev Al Sharpton and Deborrah Cooper Discuss The Black Church

. 09/11/2010 . 2 Comments

I had the pleasure of sitting down with Reverend Al Sharpton to discuss my controversial article on The Black Church: How Black Churches Keep African American Women Single and Lonely.

One thing I appreciated about Rev. Al is that he went out BEFORE the show and asked men and women for their opinions on the subject, so he came prepared to discuss not only his thoughts, but those of people whose thinking he respected. It was a great interview with lots of calls.  Check it out!

My portion of the discussion began about 25 minutes into the video.

Reverend Al Sharpton and columnist Deborrah Cooper interviewed on Wednesday, September 8th, 2010.

I wanted to comment on that article you did about the black church and single women. My question is there any match making in the black church for the single church goers, also, let me get it clear do these women that go to the black church have to find a husband only in their church? They are not suppose to date someone that does not go to their church? Well that is unreasonable. However, maybe the church could do the match making amount themselves and other churches, that could be the solution. The Jewish faith does it, Hindus and I am sure others do it to. Nothing is wrong with it. It can be a well organized sector in the church, almost ran like a business, it can also be a means of inviting young single men back into the church.

    • I agree with you, and during my broadcast on this subject (www.blogtalkradio.com/askhearteat) I discussed those possibilities. I thought all the churches in a certain segment of the city should have a singles night once a month to get people to meet each other and marry. All races, all faiths. That was my thought. Your thinking about finding a man in or that goes to their church is correct.
